Employers and Universities: Work with us?

60 Second Interview: German & Business Studies Student

Hannah Lane talks to us about life at Warwick University (the best university in the UK according to our founder - guess where he went?).

Hannah Lane

What course are you studying: BA German & Business Studies at Warwick University

What did you study at school/college: For A Levels I studied German, Business and English Literature & Language, and Maths at AS Level

Why did you choose this course?
I enjoyed studying both German and Business and couldn’t choose which one to not carry on, so I chose to do a joint honours, where I could combine them! They’re also a good mix of subjects for employability, and the course has a year abroad embedded.

Why did you choose this uni?
The reputation of the university drew me in - Warwick Business School is world renowned. When I went to visit on a offers holder day, I really liked the campus and I could clearly picture myself there! The course was also exactly what I was looking for.

What are the facilities like?
Warwick university has everything you could need on its huge campus. It's actually known as the “bubble” as it’s like its own separate little world. The library has five floors, the sports centre has a swimming pool, and the student union has pool tables. What more could you want? Warwick also has a range of accommodation to suit every budget.

What's the student experience like?
Like with any university, the student experience is what you make of it, but Warwick definitely provides the means for you to have the best time of your life! Warwick has the largest amount of societies than any other university in the UK, and a huge range of sports clubs too so you're bound to find something for you. It's very easy to make friends and it's common to have a few groups of mates - housemates, coursemates and friends from your sports club/society. In terms of nightlife, Warwick has a range of events on at the SU, but people also venture to Coventry, Leamington Spa (where most people will live second year) and for the bigger nights out, Birmingham.

Best thing about studying at your uni?
It's hard to pick just one thing! I love every aspect. But I think I particularly enjoy my course and the friends I’ve made on my course. Earlier this year we went on a trip to Berlin to practice our German and learn about the history of the city (and party natürlich). We organised this as part of German Society, and had so much fun. Warwick provides so many opportunities to enhance your career opportunities but also as a person!

Have you done any work-experience?
Yes, last summer I worked for an experiential marketing agency which I will be joining again in their German office on my year abroad. I always have some lined up for this summer in the marketing department of a company.

What are your future career plans?
I would really like to work in marketing, particularly events marketing, as it’s dynamic and challenging and something I really enjoy.

Any tips for students thinking about going to uni?
If you think university is the right path for you - then go for it! Make the most of your time at uni by joining societies and clubs, taking every opportunity that’s thrown your way and stepping out of your comfort zone. But most of all, have fun (and go to lectures - of course)!
