About Us

Edge Hill University has been providing higher education for more than 130 years with a mission to create opportunity from knowledge in an academic community comprising more than 10,000 full time undergraduate and postgraduate students, and a further 6,000 on part time and professional development programmes. The institution is based on an award – winning campus with a £13 million Technology Hub, £30 million Sports Centre, £17 million Creative Edge building, suites of brand new Biology and Geography laboratories, a newly developed Arts Centre and a £13.5 million Student Hub all completed over the past six years. Our Ormskirk campus continues to thrive with work underway on a £36 million development to include a new Library and Student Services Centre, as well as accommodation for senior undergraduate (Year 2 upwards) and postgraduate students.

Edge Hill was awarded the UK University of the Year title by Times Higher Education (2014/15) and was described as “a great success story…an institution that improves and impresses year after year”.  Recent successes include being ranked in the top 10 for teaching by the Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, top in the North West for student experience (Times Higher Education 2017), and top in the UK for student accommodation in the 2017 WhatUni Awards. Within the North West we are the safest campus (Complete University Guide 2016) and the highest-ranked institution for student satisfaction in a wide range of National Student Survey categories and subjects (NSS 2016).

Edge Hill achieved Gold, the highest rating in the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), for delivering ‘consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students’.

The Gold award – given to less than one third of Universities nationally and only three Universities in the North West – indicates that teaching at Edge Hill is of ‘the highest quality found in the UK.’

Our strengths in employability are demonstrated by 95.3% of our full time first degree graduates finding work or further study within six months of graduating (HESA), and reinforced by awards including a top ten shortlisting in the National Graduate Recruitment Awards (TARGETjobs 2017).
