Facilities

Location

Located a ten minute walk outside of Birmingham city centre Aston offers the best of both worlds; a friendly welcoming campus with all the amenities of a major city centre on its doorstep.

Birmingham is growing better each and every day. Major companies such as Microsoft, HSBC, Jaguar Land Rover and Detsche Bank all investing in Birmingham.

Birmingham is also a fantastic city to be a student in with exuberant night life in the form of pubs, clubs and live music venues.  The Bullring offers non-stop shopping and entertainment with all your favourite chains and a number of restaurants, cinemas and attractions.

Library and study facilities

Aston has a fully equipped and recently renovated library, housing multiple study rooms and workstations alongside loanable laptops and an expansive database of electronic publications available to students.

Study spaces are also placed generously around the main building and generally have 24 hour access. 

IT

There are over 50 computer labs located across campus, most of which offer 24 hour access 7 days a week.

A number of computers are loaded with specialist software and are located near their respective subject related teaching areas.

Wifi is also available across the whole campus, we are continually improving our wifi to be faster and have stronger signal.

Careers service

We have a dedicated award winning careers service focused on supporting students with securing a paid professional placement year and pastoral alumni care for those whom have just graduated.

As a university Aston was one of the pioneers of the placement year, we believe it is one of the best ways to provide our graduates for the world of work and give them valuable experience in their chosen fields, thus the option to do a placement year is available during every undergraduate degree, they are mandatory for any student studying at our business school. 

Student Union

Our students union is located on campus a short walk away from the main building currently it houses a multitude of services such as: A shop, a Subway, a hairdressers, a bookshop, study spaces, printing services  and much more.

We have begun work on building a new seven million pound students union, which aims to open in 2017 and give a much needed facelift to the old building.

Sports

We have recently completed a massive renovation of our sporting services and can now proudly offer, a state of the art 100+ station gym, several sports halls, squash courts, a sauna and one England’s oldest swimming pools.

Medical and welfare services

Welfare is available from several different points across the university, the main points of access will being The Hub; located in the main foyer, ARC; located in the students’ union and the Martin Luther King faith centre.

Financial aid

Several types of financial aid are on offer to our students, from short term emergency loans to help with living costs to high level scholarships.

Halls

Aston Student Village

Aston Student Village study bedrooms have been designed to provide you with the best possible working conditions: plenty of light, plug sockets and desk space. Aston's iconic university library will most likely be visible from your window, so you won't have to go far to read up on your subject and get the best possible learning experience. 

Gone are the days of waiting for the shower in the morning, all of our accommodation is now en-suite.

All rooms in Aston Student Villages have access to high speed internet, some of the best on offer, which is all included as part of your rent.

In William Murdoch, James Watt, Harriet Martineau and Mary Sturge residencies, flats either come with five or seven bedrooms. 5 bedroom flats have larger rooms with bigger beds, but are similar in layout.

•                Single bed size: 90cm x 190cm - 7 bed flats 

•                3/4 bed size: 120cm x 190cm - 5 bed flats

Lakeside

Lakeside en-suite student bedrooms are roomy and bright, fitted with good desk and shelving space for study materials. Each room has a generous amount of plug sockets and access to campus high speed internet.

All rooms are fitted with power showers, so you'll always emerge for your lectures or a stint in the library feeling extra fresh.

All accommodation in Lakeside has access to basement laundry facilities. The Students' Union isn't far away either, just a short 5 minute walk, so you won't have far to go after meeting up with friends or attending an event.

Other housing options / Private halls

A number of students choose to live off campus, with plenty of privately owned accommodation in Birmingham city centre. Others also choose to commute from further afield living in housing shares in places such as Edgbaston, Erdington and Mosely.
