This page explains in simple language how we use that data. For more detail about the type of data we collect and how we use it, please view our Privacy & Cookies Policy.

Students

When you sign up for an account on our site, we ask for some personal details about you, such as your name, school, gender and ethnicity. As you build your Careers Profile, you will add more information yourself which we will need to store.

Collecting this information allows us to:

  • Provide you with a personalised Careers Profile on our site, which contains details such as your grades, skills, and your favourite content on our site, and send you tailored content based on your responses to polls and competitions.
  • Ensure the information we send you about jobs, courses and placement is as relevant as possible, if you have chosen to receive updates by email, so when you come to apply to UCAS or for a job, all the details you need are in one place.
  • Share your profile information with your school or college, so that your teachers and careers advisors can use your career preferences, employability skills and work experience to help you with your career progression. Note: We will only do this if your school has bought a licence to use our platform, of if they buy one in the future. You can find out if they have one now by emailing us at data@successatschool.org.

How we use your personal details to send you relevant information

We do not sell your personal details, and we do not show them to other organisations.

Employers and universities sometimes come to us with opportunities which only apply to certain groups of people.

We collect the following kinds of information so we can send you relevant opportunities:

  • Your background – e.g. if a job is aimed at students who would be the first in their family to go to university.
  • Your location – e.g. if a university wants to encourage applications from students from the North East.
  • Subjects you study – e.g. if an opportunity is aimed at students studying maths.
  • Your career preferences – e.g. if employers are targeting students with an interest in Engineering.

Having information about you means we will only send you opportunities if you belong to the groups recruiters are trying to reach, and avoid sending them to you if they’re not relevant.
