Employers and Universities: Work with us?
Most girls want to be a vet, boys a footballer
Being a vet is the number one dream job for young girls, whereas boys want to be a professional footballer, according to a new survey.
Job board reed.co.uk asked 250 children aged between seven and 10 what they wanted to be when they grew up.
More than a quarter of girls wanted to be vets, followed by teachers. The third most popular career choice among girls was engineering – a surprising result giving the lower number of women in STEM jobs.
Reasons they gave for wanting to pursue this career included a love of technology, creativity and the desire to study hard.
Boys were a bit more predictable, with nearly a quarter wanting to be a professional footballer, followed by an inventor and a policeman.
