5 challenges to kick-start your career
“What do you want to do in the future?” Does everyone seem to be asking you that dreaded question these days? It’s not an easy one to answer.
And if you haven’t got a clue, don’t worry – that’s where we come in. With National Careers Week coming up, we’ve put together 5 days of fun challenges that’ll help you figure it out and kick-start a brilliant career. Before you get started, make sure you've created your very own Success at School profile - it makes career planning so much easier and fun.
Here are five days of career challenges:
Motivation Monday
Every week should start with a little #mondaymotivation. Get your careers week off to a flying start with some inspirational stories and practical advice from Success at School. We've got interviews with pilots, nurses, game developers, designers, even dog groomers!
They explain what it’s really like to do their job – the ups and downs – and then give insider tips to help you choose.
Plus: don't forget to follow us on Instagram for more #careerinspo.
Talent Tuesday
Every job requires you to have a range of skills. But you might be surprised to find out that you already have some. Here's where your SAS profile comes in. For your second challenge, try this exercise: start by reading out our guide to the skills that employers want. Then login to your profile and complete the skills sections.
Whether it's teamwork abilities from your after-school sport or communication skills from your volunteering job, we're willing to bet you have a bunch of skills up your sleeve. You can also make a checklist of the ones you need to work on.
Career Zone Wednesday
Now that you've sussed out what skills you have, it's time to get serious about your career. Your Wednesday challenge is to head over to our Career Zones. They give you the low-down on what all the work sectors are and what roles you could do. What roles match your skills? What careers do you like the sound of? Make sure you're logged in to your profile so you can easily favourite different career paths by starring them as you go.
If you're ready for the next step, jump on to our Employers page, where you can read about different organisations and see what they're looking for in a great staff member!
CV Thursday
Now you’ve got some mad skills, knowledge and work experience under your belt, it’s time to show it off. Accept Thursday's challenge by giving your CV a fabulous makeover. Start by reading this guide which covers all your CV dos and don’ts.
Looking for a great template to make the process oh-so-simple? We’re one step ahead of you.
Friday Funday
Make working on your career easy and, yep fun, by using Success at School.
Continuing to keep your profile topped up by looking at the subjects section. What subjects are you studying? What are you gaining from each? Make your profile the best it can be so you have something awesome to show employers and universities.
