Telecoms is an area of electrical engineering, and it is all about moving information from one point to another. Your can use your mobile phone because of the networks and devices designed by telecom engineers :)
It depends on the situation. If I know a situation is likely to be difficult I will try to prepare as best I can by reading up on the subject matter or trying to understand the other person's viewpoint. During the situation I try to stay calm and present my point across clearly whilst also listening to the views of others.
