Life as an Apprentice
3. What’s a typical work-week like for you?
I work 40 hours a week, but 8 of those hours are reserved for off-the-job (OTJ) studying and upskilling. I work from the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays and spend the rest of the week working remotely.
4. What do you wear to work?
We’re smart casual, so I usually go with a polo shirt, trousers, and shoes. And yes, the classic corporate quarter-zip sweater often makes an appearance!
5. What skills have you learned so far?
Time management has been a game-changer. I’ve had to juggle uni assignments, work tasks, and personal projects, which really improved my ability to handle pressure and think critically. Tech-wise, getting hands-on with Google Cloud Platform and Python has been awesome.
6. What’s been the highlight of your apprenticeship so far?
Working on real projects that use cutting-edge tech. Oh, and driving a 400bhp F-Type sports car! Also, getting to see unreleased cars and trying out VR tech in the office is pretty exciting.
7. And the biggest challenge?
Definitely the amount of information you need to absorb. Sometimes it feels overwhelming with both work and uni piling up, but it’s a part of the journey.
8. What's the work-study balance like?
It can be tricky. Some weeks are heavier than others, especially when projects and uni deadlines align. But setting a routine and sticking to it helps me stay on track.
9. What's the one thing you wish you'd known before starting?
Honestly, the amount of admin work! I didn’t expect there to be so much paperwork and processes. You just have to get used to it.
