Hi,Thank you for your question. You would still be a competitive candidate as apprenticeships do not care so much about your academic year. Therefore, after you finish year 13 and do your gap year, you can still apply to apprenticeships as there's not really an age limit; what matters most is your qualifications and experience. My advice is to apply for apprenticeships during your gap year so you are able to transition into your apprenticeship after your gap year. If you are applying to level 3 apprenticeships, you would typically require good GCSEs (5 passes). If you are applying to level 4 or above, you may need some BTEC or A level qualifications but this would be outlined in the academic requirements of the specific apprenticeship. In regards to the experience you need, please try to get work experience that is somewhat relevant to your desired industry. If you cannot, that is fine and I would suggest showcasing the skills you gained and taking examples from your gap year of you showing leadership, teamwork, collaboration, problem solving, time management, organisation etc. The things that will stand out in your CV is experience and passion in the industry you want to work in. In addition to that, ensure that your CV and cover letter shows how keen you are for the role and a career in that industry and make sure you tailor them to the job [link removed] hope that was useful and I am more than happy to respond to any other questions you may have.
That was very helpful, Thank you!
