I am only a few weeks away from choosing my GCSE subjects and I have no idea what to do pls help me with strategies for picking my subjects
Hi there.
There are a few strategies I think would be useful:
- think about where you strengths and interests overlap - the subjects you enjoy and that you're good at
- think about where you want to go in your career. You don't even have to know what exact job you want to do - if you have a sense of what field you'd like to go into, you can find out what qualifications you need to get there and then pick out the GCSEs that will help you on the first stage of that journey. If you're not sure about this, I've put a helpful link below.
You will probably find some overlap between subjects you like and are good at, and those that will help you get to your ideal career path. A mix of subjects will help keep your options open. This is a good idea particularly if you're uncertain about your future, because you may well change your mind further down the line.
Here are some articles on our site that might help:

When you're struggling with a big decision like this, it's always best to talk to someone for personalised advice. Have a word with a careers advisor and/or teacher at your school. Consider talking to your parents, and/or a brother or sister. Friends can give good advice too - but don't just pick your subjects based on what your friends are taking.
