In their Q&A, Humber UTC chatted with merchant-navy information organisation Careers at Sea. They covered:
Can you leave anytime you want? or do you have to stay a certain amount of time?
It can be, but you make friends on board and they become your family for the time you are there. You are busy working too, so you don't have time to think about missing home.
Ah okay, fair enough, has anyone actually fallen off a boat before ??
You agree to be on the ship for a certain amount of time, but if you have an emergency etc. then arrangements can be made to assist you in getting off. also, if during your training you don't like it, your company will help and try to find something you do like if they can.
Health and safety is important and generally people are fine and do not fall off.
Do you get taught all the health and safety during the training?
Are you able to take pets? Like, for example, a pet fish ?
Any more for any more? It is been great talking!
Thanks for your time.
Thank you for your time, where are you based?
