What can I ask?
You can ask any questions about careers in engineering.
You might like to ask about engineering roles in different industries, career pathways, the qualifications and skills you need to pursue different careers, apprenticeship and school/college leaver programmes, and work experience opportunities.
Which organisations are involved?
- BA: British Airways has the UK's largest airliner fleet. Worldwide, they employ 2,000 engineers who look after BA's aeroplanes and the components they're made up of.
- BBC: The UK's largest public service broadcaster. The BBC is based on engineering and technology, and roles are available from entry level all the way up to MSc.
- British Marine: Membership organisation for the UK leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry. As part of their roles ensuring members have access to a skilled workforce, British Marine will be on hand to talk to you about engineering careers in the industry.
- BT: Telecommunications company BT employ different kinds of engineers to research and design physical networks, develop new software, and install and look after BT equipment and cables.
- Cadent Gas: Britain's largest gas network, supplying 11 million homes, Cadent relies on engineers to look after their pipes and infrastructure.
- Careers at Sea: Educate people about careers in commercial shipping (aka the Merchant Navy). They'll be on hand to provide advice on the breadth of engineering career paths in the industry.
- Freightliner: A rail freight company, Freightliner depends on skilled engineers to look after their fleet of trains.
- Fujitsu: Fujitsu is the world's third-oldest IT company. Engineers are involved in hardware, software, as well as the design and construction of vehicles and machines.
- Interserve: Interserve's construction wing carries out big civil engineering projects around the world.
- Morgan Sindall: As a construction company, Morgan Sindall employs civil engineers to design and oversee their projects.
- QinetiQ: Defence company QinetiQ is built on engineers who design, build and maintain aircraft, ships, munitions and other cutting-edge technology.
- Rolls-Royce: Power systems engineers at Rolls-Royce design, improve and create state-of-the-art engines for powering aircraft, cars and other vehicles and machines.
- Severn Trent: At this water company, engineers look after infrastructure such as pipes, treatment plants and other facilities.
- Volkswagen Group: This car manufacturer employs engineers to design, improve and build their range of cars and vehicles.
