Preparation for World of Work

Swansea University Employability Academy (SEA) supports our students at each stage of their journey towards a graduate career - from coordinating professional careers advice, managing a range of placement schemes and ensuring face-to-face & online support, to providing guidance for making informed career choices and preparing for interviews. It provides a network for linking students with employers - ranging from careers fairs, employer talks and workshops through to funded placement opportunities and student led networking events. We also offer a number of degree courses with a Year in Industry option and many of our degrees include work placements.

Sheffield Hallam University prepares our students for the future, and creates knowledge that provides practical solutions to real world challenges. Our courses are relevant to the workplace and already have employability built in. So from day one students are gaining sought-after skills that make them much more employable when they graduate. We offer 19,000 work placements every year, giving students industry experience with top employers like IBM, Sony, the BBC and Adidas.

A work placement not only gives students valuable experience. It also
• helps students apply what they are learning, improving professional and technical skills
• gives a better understanding of industry and how businesses operate
• can improve important transferable skills such as teamwork, project management and presenting

All of which helps our students stand out to employers. Some students even secure graduate jobs with their placement employers or through contacts they have made.

We advocate that for students to give themselves an edge over other graduates, they should also get involved in opportunities outside of their course.

Once enrolled, our students have access to our Careers Support and Advice service, we are the top-rated university careers advice service in the UK, with 96% student satisfaction (2015 Student Employability Index).
