Following the introduction of the apprenticeship levy how are apprenticeship opportunities now being perceived by students, schools and parents? If necessary, how do you think employers can change this?
Hi LizzyJones - great question and thanks for the contributions elsewhere. You might be interested in this question https://successatschool.org/forum/topic/103/Changing-parents-perception-of-apprenticeships
I don't think the levy as had any impact on parents or students. Many parents have memories of the old YTS etc. and we are slowly educating them on the range and standards of the new apprenticeships available. Attending Careers Fairs where you can speak to parents and students is the best way to help us change opinions
Would it help if we could invite parents to participate in forums like this one?
Possibly ?? But you may only hear from proactive parents not necessarily those who need to hear the most
Ok - how about if we created topic titled "Benefits of apprenticeships" (things parents should know). If a range of employers listed the benefits, you could share that page with all parents, so they can see multiple employers views on it at the same time. that way it's all in one place for them.
Sounds like a brilliant idea
