BBC 'Get In' Work-Taster Days

At the BBC, we have apprenticeships in five main areas: Business; Digital, Data & Technology; Engineering & Operations; Journalism and Production. 

Whatever bit of the creative industry you’re interested in, as long as you’ve got the passion, the BBC’s got an apprenticeship! Our apprenticeship schemes give you on-the-job experience, a salary and training – everything you need for your future career. Our apprenticeships also allow you to gain a recognised formal qualification. Being an apprentice at the BBC isn’t just about training and workplace experience though…It’s also about being part of a thriving apprentice community whose voice really matters in our organisation. Depending on which apprenticeship you’re interested in, you will either have between November and  December or December and January to complete the first stage of application.

Business:

This is for you if you’re keen to develop your skills in business management, finance, law, HR or marketing and want to pursue a career that supports the business operations of the world’s largest public service broadcaster…

Digital, Data, or Technology:

If you’re someone who’s excited by numbers, innovation and problem-solving in a digital space then one of our Digital, Data or Technology apprenticeships is for you. On one of these schemes you could find yourself working in a team keeping the BBC safe from cyber threats, or using cutting-edge data science to support BBC innovation, or developing new apps and platforms. 

Engineering & Operations:

Engineering & Operations is for you if you’re fascinated by how things work and you enjoy solving tricky technical problems. Applying for one of these schemes is your chance to be part of the next generation of media systems engineers and operators helping to deliver content across all of the BBC’s TV, radio and digital platforms. 

Journalism:

Journalism is what you should consider if you’re someone who’s curious about the world around you, loves news and wants to share stories you find. You’re probably someone bursting with creative ways on how to tell stories and now you want to learn how to develop your skills and write and produce great content. 

Production:

If you like coming up with ideas and want to tell stories then the Production scheme offers the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of roles working with the teams producing TV, audio and digital content. If you enjoy planning, organising and keeping projects on track, then it’s a Production Coordinator role you want to apply for. And, if you want to learn about the technical side of production, cameras, sound and editing, then go for our Operator scheme. 

Length of Schemes:

The length of the scheme varies according to apprenticeship. Advanced/Higher apprenticeship schemes typically last 18 months to 2 years. Degree apprenticeship schemes are between 3 to 4 years and Higher/Master’s Degree apprenticeship schemes are typically 18 months to 2 years. 

As you approach the end of your apprenticeship, we will work with you to support you and offer you employability and networking training to help you secure your next role – which could be either at the BBC, or somewhere in the wider media industry.

We aim to halve emissions and to have reduced all emissions by at least 90%, and be at Net Zero, by 2050.

The BBC has ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our buildings, business travel and waste. . These ambitions stretch across the entire organisation and everyone is needed, and expected, to play their part in reaching them. 

Staff can get involved in making the BBC a more sustainable organisation by joining one of our local Green Teams which are made up of volunteer staff who are passionate about improving sustainability in the workplace, raising awareness of green issues and improving greener ways of working. We also have a suite of training on sustainability and climate available via the BBC Academy. Our sustainability teams are continually coming up with ideas, initiatives and interventions designed to inspire everyone to get involved in the journey towards a greener BBC. 

In the wider industry, we work with our suppliers and partners to ensure that, as a community, we are working together to make the BBC a more sustainable organisation as well as helping to decarbonise the wider TV industry. 

We have a ‘Sustainability Toolkit for Leaders’ which focuses on key levers of change and which every team, right across the BBC, can use to choose their own actions to help cut fossil fuel use and become more resource efficient. 

A new online platform accounting, reporting & tracking the BBC’s environmental impact which will pull together all the BBC’s carbon data, down to a detailed level is also being launched soon. Via which everyone will have access to the data they need in order to understand their impact, and better focus their impact, on pan BBC sustainability ambitions.
