About Amber

Hi, I’m Amber! I’m based in Bristol and I’m a third-year Solicitor Apprentice at TLT LLP, currently working towards my law degree at BPP University. At A-Level, I studied History, English Literature, Spanish and also did an EPQ.

1. What’s the #1 thing you love about your job?

I love that I have the opportunity to work alongside legal professionals who are leading in their field, as this exposes me to the various ways that matters are handled across a wide range of sectors and clients.

2. What was the biggest challenge shifting from school to work?

For me, the biggest challenge was adapting to professional forms of communication such as emails to stakeholders and handling telephone calls. Luckily, when I joined my first team, all my emails were checked with a supervisor before they were sent, and I was only set up on the phone system once I had completed all my training.

3. How do you handle exams while working?

It sounds a bit cliché, but I have found that staying organised is key to juggling both study and work. A key part of this is that I make sure to diarise university deadlines well in advance so that I can break revision into manageable chunks.

4. What does your week actually look like?

Most teams I have worked in expect attendance in the office 2–3 days per week, however this can fluctuate depending on client meetings, events, or court commitments.

5. Why did you choose an apprenticeship over university?

The main reason that I chose an apprenticeship was that it would allow me to develop a more well-rounded legal skill set by reinforcing university modules with real-world experience.

6. What’s your go-to office lunch?

Rice or pasta salad.
