Legal Solicitor Apprentice at TLT LLP – Bristol
'Everything will fall into place — it’s not worth stressing over.'About Subhan
Hi, I’m Subhan! I’m based in Bristol and I’m currently a Legal Solicitor Apprentice at TLT LLP, working towards my LLB law degree. At A-Level, I studied History, Maths and Economics.
1. What’s the #1 thing you love about your job?
Being able to work flexibly — as long as my team’s aware, it helps have a proper work-life balance.
2. What was the biggest challenge shifting from school to work?
Just becoming more mature given you’re now in an office surrounded by adults who are more experienced. You can be yourself but need to display a certain standard of professionalism, which is never taught in school.
3. How do you handle exams while working?
I make sure I get things done as I go along, to save build-up right before exams, and I take some time off to ensure I have ample time to revise.
4. What does your week actually look like?
I enjoy working from home generally since you’re comfortable but trusted to get things done. Working in the office allows me to get more done though, since connection and devices work faster, and it’s nice to see the team.
5. Why did you choose an apprenticeship over university?
As a Muslim I could not indulge in interest through the student finance route, so this allows me to study law without compromising my ethical beliefs.
6. What’s your go-to office lunch?
I usually go for a meal deal with high-protein options but might occasionally treat myself to something nicer like a jacket potato or a grilled chicken wrap!
7. What are you binge-watching right now?
I have been watching Snowfall for a couple of months — if you know, you know!
Top Tip
8. What’s one thing you wish you knew when you were 17?
Everything will fall into place and regardless of the situation — personal or work-related — it’s not worth stressing over!
