Legal Solicitor Apprentice at TLT LLP – Bristol
'Every day is different — and that’s the best part.'About Maisey
Hi, I’m Maisey! I’m based in Bristol and I’m currently a Legal Solicitor Apprentice at TLT LLP. I work in Property Litigation, which means I deal with real-life issues like landlords and tenants, disputes about buildings, and commercial property work. Alongside my job, I’m studying towards my law degree and solicitor qualification (SQE route). At college I did A-levels in Law, Business, and Sociology.
1. What do you love most about your job?
The best part is that every day is different, and the fact we get to move seats and explore so many areas of law! One minute I am on a residential disrepair claim and the next I’m working on the commercial property side advising our long-standing clients. It is rewarding to see your work have an impact, even as a junior.
2. What was the biggest challenge shifting from school to work?
Honestly, the biggest challenge was the pace shift. College gives you structure, but in work you suddenly have real responsibilities and people relying on you. It takes a bit of time to trust yourself and realise your own knowledge and potential.
3. How do you balance work and study?
It’s definitely a juggle, but planning is so key. This comes into making your own structure, and everyone does this differently. I like to have a set routine for my study days, and when exams are around the corner, I block out time throughout the week for revision.
4. What does your week actually look like?
My week is a mix of working from home and being in the office, 50/50. Office days are great for team chats, asking quick questions and feeling part of everything. WFH days are perfect for getting my head down and powering through work.
5. Why did you choose an apprenticeship over university?
I wanted real experience straight away, a more active, on-the-job role. The idea of earning while learning, getting legal training from experts, and qualifying as a lawyer without the debt really appealed to me. Being in the workplace from day one has been invaluable to my skillset and knowledge.
6. What’s your go-to office lunch?
Usually something quick and easy! Sushi or a salad is usually my go-to.
7. How do you switch off after work?
I absolutely love sport and going to the gym — a current obsession is playing padel. Besides that, I also switch off by watching comfort TV shows.
Top Tip
8. What’s one thing you wish you knew when you were 17?
Everything works out. Take every opportunity in its stride, ask lots of questions, and absorb as much as possible. You have so much time!
