When I started my technical apprenticeship with one of the largest tech companies these are some points I would work on to get a head start 😊 Whilst you do have some time before applying staying ahead will make your applying period easier.·       Insight days, virtual q&a etc. Majority of the big companies willhost online webinars or events during the buildup to application season where you get the chance to meet the hiring managers, apprentices or employees of the company. These are not mandatory but can be useful to attend and you are able to be updated on the apprenticeship application process and ask any questions you may [link removed] your skills·       Whilst all technical apprenticeships are different and the requirements will differ for them all there is benefits on upskilling.·       You can start learning basic programming languages like Python if you are applying for technical coding apprenticeships so that you have good base knowledge for interviews and assessment centres.·       Build personal projects ([link removed], a simple website, app, or automation script) to demonstrate your abilities. You can also speak about this in interviews to impress your hiring manager·       Tech Certifications: Consider earning certifications in relevant fields as it shows that you have a willingness to learn and growth mindset when you do applyExtracurriculars·       Tech Clubs: Join or start a coding/tech/stem club at school, or be active in communities to connect with like-minded individuals. It shows initiative to the interviewer and having something like this will help you stand out when you do apply. You will also develop skills which you can utilise during application season·       Shadowing/Work experience/Part time job: Find opportunities to shadow, if you can get part time work or even get some work experience. It doesn’t even have to be technical focus but it shows a hiring manager that you have applied what you've learned in a real-world [link removed]!·       So important that you start drafting CV’s and cover letters and that you don’t leave it last min.·       Also you can start doing interview prep (practice questions, mock interviews) its good to be familiar with the process and for many its their first time doing professional interviews so having practice really helps·       Network create a LinkedIn if you can. Build a personal brand and connect with tech professionals to increase your visibility and learn about opportunities or reach out for advice for when you do applyAnd finally research! Do your research on the company and the apprenticeship program you want to apply for as it differs across departments and companies etc!
