How to stand out when applying for a banking or finance apprenticeship?

Watch Topic

Would an understanding of psychology, such as behavioral economics or cognitive biases, help? And what other things to do in terms of work experience, etc.

Hi, Work experience in any sort of financial institutions would definitely be very attractive to employers. However, please do not worry if you haven‘t had any direct experience in banking or finance, any customer facing work experience is also valued very highly. In terms of standing out, I always recommend that applicants research the company and it‘s values. Once you have figured out what values are, align yourself and your answers to any interview questions with the values. Also, don‘t be afraid to be yourself and display your individual personality during interviews. You need to make a good and long-lasting impression on the interviewers.

Hi,I think undertaking work experience in the financial sector is useful because it shows the company that you are serious about Finance, and have made an effort by gaining some work experience in banking.  It will also give you a bit more confidence that finance is the path for you!I personally didn’t undertake any financial work experience, butI did take a working gap year after my A-levels where I had work experience inthe retail and hospitality sector. I think this made me more confident that Iwas ready for the working world!Have you undertaken any financial work experience yet?
