Relevant A-levels and BTECs for each sector

Watch Topic

Will employers be able to let us know which A Levels and/or BTECS grades and subjects would be most appropriate for their sector?

Hi Ros, we don't currently have any specification as to the subjects individuals applying to our apprenticeship programmes should study however we do have grading criteria of three B's, or a B and two C's (or equivalent) depending on the programme they apply to. That said, I would always recommend for candidates to have a logical explanation as to why they've chosen the subjects they studied, how they came to have an interest in the field they are now applying to and what they feel the relevant transferable skills would be. The skills they would be using with us in accountancy are so varied that there's always something that will relate!

It's great to hear that it's not subject related however leaners will need to have the skills to make their explanations relevant.

I would look for them to have considered the role they are applying to and have thought about the skills employers will be looking for and how they might have obtained these within their subjects. For instance studying sciences they might have developed their analytical skills, English they might have good written communication, history they might be good at researching and reasoning etc. These are just examples but all of these skills would be relevant to a career in accountancy.
