A bit about myself in Network [link removed] I’ve held quite a few engineering roles in Network Rail (all related to my telecoms background). My current role is all about defining the requirements for the future signalling systems. Previous roles included approving the equipment to be used in the communication network, designing communications networks, and defining/implementing telecommunications systems

what would your advice be to someone who wants to go further in this career?

why did you choose this as your job?

I studied engineering at university and then went to work in New York in project management at a bank. When I came back to the UK I wanted a job that combined engineering and project management and the railway project manager job was perfect

Do you have to do well on your GCSEs?

Yes, it is important to do well on your GCSE's as if you are interested in doing an apprenticeship you will need them and if you want to continue doing A levels and then university, you will also need good grades

A bit about myself… I studied Telecommunications Engineering in my native Spain before moving to England. I continued my studies in England completing an MSc in Computing Science. I joined a big telecoms company after that, and a couple of years later I joined Network Rail.

did you move away from your friends and family? if so was it hard for you?

I originally came to England as part of my degree - I did my final year dissertation in England with an Erasmus scholarship - and I loved it so much I ended up staying.

did it take long to qualify

If you want to go to university you need A Levels and you need good GCSE's to study A Levels. You can also undertake an apprenticeship which only requires GCSE's. Usually apprenticeships require at least grade C in Maths and English.

hi im taking geography but i dont like it

Sorry to hear that. There are so many aspects of Geography, try finding one that interests you and focusing on that. For example, types of chemical erosion or patterns of people interactions in a city are both 'geography'
