As a career adviser, I see that it is increasingly important to have employers working closely with students at school, particularly where schools don't have funds/resources to be able to send students on work experience. What would you like to see happen in schools to produce students who are more employable and ready for the market place in the future? Would your company be willing to come into schools and do work with them?
A great way to engage with employers is through existing employer / education networks. Our people volunteer through STEMNET ([link removed] which brings STEM professionals in to the classroom and Inspiring the future (also Primary Futures and Inspiring Women [link removed] careers events.
Both are free to access for schools and colleges and can be a good place to start building relationships with local employers for more tailored activities.
Being able to develop skills such as team work, communication, problem solving through activities in school is highly valuable, as well as young people being prepared for the basics such as the interview or assessment days is important.
The TfL Schools Challenge offers Year 12 and 13 students the opportunity to work in teams to develop these qualities in school / college over a term long project.([link removed]).
