I would like to know what is the difference between aeronautical engineering and aerospace engineering as I have read a few posts and articles on it however I am extremely confused about the topic.

Aeronautical and aerospace engineering covers the design and engineering in the systems, equipment and components that make up flying vehicles such as planes, helicopters, spacecraft and rockets. In simple terms the difference is where the vehicle flies - if it's within the Earth's atmosphere it's aeronautical if it's not (ie. in space) it's aerospace.

Aerospace Engineering is an umbrella term which encompasses Aeronautical Engineering and Astronautical Engineering.

A degree in Aerospace Engineering will usually cover both of these areas.
