Hi Dominiques, this question is very [link removed] am going to say YES it will exist, but I'll give you the why and why not to answer both cases (as I assume you're referring to AI's impact)👍WHY?Firstly, there is still a significant reliance on engineers/researchers to develop new versions of "AI" and I don't think we're within 10 years of sentient/Ultron level AI, so human's are still going to have to be a medium between Models/Agents and contextual knowledge. Which leads me to my next point on my role as a software/data engineer specifically - I believe our roles will evolve to being more capable/experimental/strategic. [link removed] work that would've taken 3 engineers/professionals may soon require just 1 engineer, but equally there will be new more complex problems that we'll have to solve, so it doesn't necessarily mean there will be a lack of work. Finally, undeveloped countries and in developed countries - small businesses and certain departments in large organisations don't/won't have the funding to use AI and other expensive tools, and also don't have the data/compute infrastructure set up to take advantage of "basic" tech let alone AI, so this will mean more traditional work will still be available, though you probably won't get paid as much for it, still might be significant but might not be the insane amounts synonymous with recent tech [link removed] NOT?Ofc, I don't have a crystal ball, so let's say AI did become sentient and we were able to take advantage of this globally. Then our roles would change significantly - but IMO still not be completely non-existent as there are data protection/governance, feasibility, and sustainability problems which make this pretty much impossible - industrial revolution (much less complex to enable than AI) matured ~100+ years ago and we still have countries without organised public transport or reliable international power grids. Also governments will likely try everything they can to centralise control of AI, so may take years of testing before general public can use it.
