Yes, you can work towards a social work apprenticeship after sixth form, but in most cases you won’t go straight into a full social worker degree apprenticeship immediately. Instead, many people start in entry-level social care roles, such as a support worker or care assistant, to gain relevant experience before applying to the Level 6 social work degree apprenticeship, which combines paid work with a university qualification over around three to four years. You’ll typically need A-levels (or equivalent) and GCSEs in English and Maths, as well as strong communication skills and a genuine interest in helping others. While it is possible to go straight in if you have strong grades and experience, most candidates build experience first to make their application more competitive.
