In all honesty, apprenticeships are very competitive due to the increased interest however, you can become a strong candidate and easily win against the competition by showing a genuine passion and curiosity for the role you would like. It would also be helpful for you to build relevant work experience through placements, projects at school, community work and other activities so that you have skills that would be useful in the workplace and show how competent you are.
