Be organised from the beginning - it is tough to manage work, study and a social life but if you can lock down your time management and prioritisation you will be absolutely fine! On your Q about which is more difficult - that really depends on you. I think the apprenticeship route can be challenging due to time commitments but on the other hand, you gained experience whilst working so some of the academics came more naturally.
