Job hunters ‘aren’t taking advantage of social media’

Job hunters are missing out by not using social media to sell themselves to future employers, new research has found.

While 27m Brits use social media every day, less than one in five are using it for their own career enhancement.

Only 19% included fundraising activities on their profiles, just 17% mentioned volunteering, and 12% talked about leadership roles.

The research was carried out to mark the finale of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge, which tests apprentices on their teambuilding, leadership, logistical and communications abilities in a series of work-related challenges.

Experts have now called on employees to do more to celebrate the skills they have on social media.
