Rolls-Royce pioneers cutting-edge technologies that deliver the cleanest, safest and most competitive solutions.

Starting salary: £17,500
Location: Bristol
Duration: 4 years

At Rolls-Royce, we pioneer cutting-edge technologies to explore the possibilities of cleaner, safer, more competitive power. As an Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprentice, you’ll make a real contribution to our success, ensuring the products we build not only reach the high standards we demand for our customers, but get to them on time.

Join us and you’ll be shaping the future, surrounded by brilliant individuals who’ll help to inspire, challenge and support you to be yourself and at your best.

The programme

You’ll spend your first year studying full-time at Weston College, learning the foundations of the role and working towards your Level 4 Diploma. After that, you’ll work with teams across our Manufacturing, Assembly and Test Centre, expanding your skills and knowledge on the job while continuing to spend a day each week studying at college.

You’ll learn how to use a range of tools and techniques to support decision-making and solve problems. And you’ll master how to gather and analyse data to help you plan, identify issues and ensure the quality and efficiency of our teams’ output. Alongside a recognised qualification in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, you’ll gain detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes within the aerospace industry, which you can use to explore a huge range of opportunities, including careers within engineering.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship, you’ll be responsible for the quality, safety and delivery of our products. You’ll play a key part in planning and controlling operations, looking at customer demand and working to make sure we have the resource and materials to meet it. You’ll be responsible for keeping our systems up to date with capacity requirements and ensuring we’re always compliant with the standards and regulations we need to achieve.

To do it, you’ll play a key role in a cross-functional team – working with quality engineers, repair teams and suppliers to make sure we have high-quality parts on the shop floor exactly when we need them. As you do, you’ll have the opportunity to enhance the way we operate by helping us find ways to improve our business processes, procedures and working methods.

What you'll need

5 GCSEs which must include Maths at grade 5/B, plus 4 further GCSEs at grade 4/C which should include English Language, Science (excluding Biology), Technology or an Engineering-related subject. Alternatively, A-level Maths or a Science-related subject at grade C. Obtained or predicted.

We’re looking for people who are natural problem-solvers, great team players and have a good level of IT skills. This role is all about working with others, so you’ll also be a good communicator, able to listen to needs and negotiate solutions. Good organisation and prioritisation are also key, so you’ll be able to demonstrate an ability to manage competing demands, whether within school or college or outside it.

Due to the nature of our work in Defence, we’re unable to employ anyone who doesn’t have the legal right to live and work in the UK and if you have spent more than three months outside of the UK in the last five years (e.g. travelling, working, living), we might not be able to employ you. This role is subject to Full UK Security Check Clearance issued by the United Kingdom Security Vetting. To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.  Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

What you’ll get

  • A competitive starting salary, with annual pay rises
  • Fully sponsored Level 4 Diploma in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Competitive pension and 33 days holiday per year (including bank holidays)
  • Career support from day one

Applications open until Midday [UK TIME] on Friday 31st March 2023

Assessment centres will be running from early February 2023 onwards
