Rolls-Royce pioneers cutting-edge technologies that deliver the cleanest, safest and most competitive solutions.

Salary: Competitive
Location: Derby Raynesway
Duration: 4 years

Can you imagine being part of the team that powers the UK’s submarines? We’ve provided power for the Royal Navy for over 60 years. Now we’re leading a revolution in nuclear power that is already seeing us develop this technology for many other uses, from unmanned underwater vehicles, to microreactors and synthetic fuel and even exploring space.

Everyone is unique, so every Rolls-Royce journey is different too. We'll help you to find your way and discover your potential. Your unique personality, passion, and sense of purpose makes us who we are and a place where everyone belongs. And anything is possible.

What you’ll do

In Year 1, you’ll complete an introduction to manufacturing in our brand-new Nuclear Skills Academy. The course will provide you with basic engineering skills in turning, milling, sheet metal and welding. In addition to this, you will start your BEng degree studying modules that will prepare you to start working in industry in your second year. For the rest of the programme, you’ll continue your degree while working in Rolls-Royce Submarines. You’ll complete placements across different parts of the engineering lifecycle, giving you the opportunity to work in both engineering and manufacturing and in service environments. These placements will be essential for you to gain experience and aid in the development of your fundamental knowledge of engineering.

What you’ll need

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C which must include Maths, English Language and Science plus 2 others. Minimum 112 UCAS points from: 3 A-Levels to include Maths or Physics at grade C or an Engineering-based Level 3 BTEC at DMM/90+ credits. Obtained or predicted.

You’ll be fascinated by nuclear engineering and how the engineering lifecycle comes together to deliver a world class product. You should also be a logical and analytical thinker – someone with a common-sense approach when it comes to working with data and coming up with solutions to challenges.

Due to the nature of our work in Defence, we’re unable to employ anyone who doesn’t have the legal right to live and work in the UK and if you have spent more than three months outside of the UK in the last five years (e.g., travelling, working, living), we might not be able to employ you. This role is subject to Full UK Security Check Clearance issued by the United Kingdom Security Vetting. To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.  Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

What will I get?

  • A competitive starting salary with annual pay rises
  • Fully funded BEng (Hons) Degree (University of Derby) and other qualifications
  • Competitive pension and 33 days’ holiday per year (including bank holidays)
  • Career support from day one

Applications will be open until Tuesday 28th February 2023

Assessment Centres will be running from January 2023 onwards
