Our Engineers focus on the assets that form the foundation of our transport network’s building infrastructure.

How long: 5.5 years

What you’ll need:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A* – C or Grade 4 and above including Maths and English language (or equivalent).
  • Plus a minimum of three A levels at A* – C (or equivalent) including Maths and Physics or Chemistry
  • You must be 18 years of age by 1st September 2019 to be eligible for this scheme.

You’ll help us provide our customers with a bright, clean, functional and welcoming environment that is safe and accessible to all, whilst keeping in line with passenger growth demands delivered through our line upgrades and improvement programmes.

You’ll help us retain and develop the in-house knowledge of our Electrical & Mechanical assets as we upgrade our assets to become safer, more reliable, automated and energy efficient.

What will I be doing?

This teams cover the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Electrical and Mechanical assets of buildings in TfL’s fleet of infrastructure.  These assets include lighting, low voltage, lightning protection, domestic water, gas, heating, air conditioning and ventilation sub-assets.

Your placements could include London Underground Infrastructure and Systems, DLR, Northern Line Extension and the Deep Tube Upgrade. At the end of the 3rd year, you will choose to specialise in either Electrical or Mechanical, with university modules selected to match this decision.

Where can this career take me?

You could progress into a position in one of our Electrical or Mechanical sub-teams.  You could have the opportunity to continue developing into one of our resident technical experts or an experienced Senior Project Engineer. Our current Director of Engineering started their careers as technician apprentices so our apprentices can aspire to senior management positions or anything else in between.

The qualification you will earn is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) so you could go on to pursue Chartership.
