Living Our Values

Our Values, described in terms of behaviours, are key to highly effective performance within each of our jobs.

Being open and honest and having strong principles.  This is a foundation of our business.

By this we mean accountability, responsibility and empowerment. It’s about taking responsibility for your job, being empowered to do all you can to do it well, learn and develop.

A desire to raise the bar, the need for courage, confidence, positivity and challenge.  We must create a positive direction of travel for our business and think beyond the current environment.

A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements. It reflects the requirement to show everyone personal respect and to respect the place of the individual in the team.

Founded in 1881, our company has a long history in finance. We began investing in global equities in the 1920s, developing our Asian and emerging market capabilities thereafter. We have built on these specialisations ever since.

Today, we manage our clients’ money by investing it in companies across the globe. We do that with a long-term view, and by using a collaborative team decision approach. We work with a global client base of financial institutions, charities, foundations, endowments, pension funds, family offices, government agencies and investment funds.

Our affiliation with Legg Mason, one of the world’s largest asset management firms, in 2014 has enhanced our company both financially and culturally. It has elevated our operational platform to best-in-class, with an institutional grade infrastructure and a highly distinctive product offering which, when combined, create a highly compelling client proposition.

Importantly, though, the company’s corporate independence has been preserved. A stand-alone business model means we are able to operate with freedom of thought and action, ensuring our interests remain closely aligned with those of our clients.

Our learning culture and drive to deliver world class client solutions, means we are constantly innovating. This provides lots of opportunities to continue learning and developing, allowing you to grow your career. You will work in a fast-paced environment partnering with colleagues both in Edinburgh and across the globe.

We are looking for ambitious people who take responsibility, are keen to continue learning and are able to work in partnership with colleagues and clients.

Driven by our Purpose of ‘Investing to improve lives’, our strategy of delivering world class client solutions and pursuing investment excellence is underpinned by our values of Ambition, Responsibility, Partnership and Learning.
