Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship – Manufacturing
Battery Assembly Centre (BAC) and Engine Manufacturing Centre (EMC)
There's no need to choose between education and practical skills because our Advanced Apprenticeship gives you both. You can broaden your mind with brand-new concepts at college and put them into action here at Jaguar Land Rover. One day, you'll be learning about the latest technologies in your field, and the next you'll be applying your learning in your job.
And while we open your eyes to the future of automotive technology, giving you a platform to make a real difference to Jaguar Land Rover and our customers, we’ll also enable you to complete your level 3 apprenticeship and achieve a vocational qualification relevant to your apprentice programme.
On this Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship – Manufacturing, you will be based either at the Battery Assembly Centre (BAC) in Birmingham or the Engine Manufacturing Centre (EMC) in Wolverhampton. You will be asked to indicate your preference during the application process.
Battery Assembly Centre (BAC) and Engine Manufacturing Centre (EMC)
Our EMC and BAC produce a range of propulsion systems that form the heart of all our vehicles: both traditional internal combustion engines and pioneering battery electrification technology.
Our BAC at Hams Hall is powering the next-generation manufacturing vital to automotive electrification. At capacity the facility will use 4 million ‘battery’ cells in production every day – that’s 900 million per year.
The EMC in Wolverhampton machines and assembles a range of propulsion systems within a state-of-the-art purpose-built manufacturing facility - awarded with a rating of ‘excellent’ by BREEAM for sustainable buildings.
Wherever you join us, you will be fundamental to developing tomorrow’s vehicles. Along the way, you will read and interpret relevant data and documentation used to maintain components, equipment and systems whilst conducting monitoring and maintenance activities across the plant. You will also carry out complex fault diagnosis and repair on high technology systems such as mechanical equipment, fluid and pneumatic power equipment, process control equipment and robot and laser marking devices. This will rapidly develop your problem-solving skills to enable you to effectively rectify automated performance and contribute to continuous improvement.
The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) Manufacturing is a four-year programme, delivered to standards approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IfATE). This exciting programme will develop your practical skills and cultivate the knowledge you need to succeed, including business behaviours such as team working and problem-solving.
The pathway you will follow will depend upon the area of the business in which you will be based.
You will learn how to work safely and make a technical contribution to the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of our products or equipment.
During your apprenticeship, you can expect to spend a significant amount of your first year at our training provider, Make UK in Birmingham, and will complement your studies by working at a Jaguar Land Rover plant alongside members of our skilled teams. In your second and third years, you will predominantly work in the plant, and you’ll continue your studies at the training provider one day per week, with the constant guidance and support of an Industrial Training Manager (ITM).
You will need to demonstrate a strong motivation for working in BAC or EMC and meet our academic entry criteria:
GCSE Maths and English Language at level 4 (C) or higher plus three further GCSEs at level 4 (C) or higher, including one STEM (science, technology, engineering or maths) subject or an Engineering vocational qualification at level 3/90 credits/540 GLH or higher.
We value new and diverse talent, unconstrained and innovative thinking, and fresh insights and perspectives to support us in developing class-leading products. An interest in engineering is desirable, along with real excitement and passion to help Jaguar Land Rover deliver next-generation products and technology.
