Changes to minimum wage for young people and apprentices

The national minimum wage is increasing this week – make sure you’re clued up with our guide below.

From Thursday 1 October 2015, the minimum wage you should be paid per hour is:

  • Apprentice*: £3.30
  • Under 18: £3.87
  • 18-20: £5.30
  • 21 and over: £6.70

You’ll need to be at least school leaving age to qualify for the minimum wage.

*This rate applies to apprentices who are aged between 16 and 18, or those who are 19 and over in their first year. All other apprentices should get the national minimum wage for their age.
