What course are you studying: Veterinary Medicine (BVM&S) at Edinburgh University

What did you study at college:  Chemistry, Maths and Biology A level and PE AS

Why did you choose this course?
I’d done lots of work experience in the Veterinary field and knew that it was the vocation for me. I also do love being around animals and people, and it’s a great combination of that!

Why did you choose this uni?
I got into Edinburgh and Liverpool after interviews. I chose Edinburgh following the open day because I felt at home there and the facilities they offered were new and innovative.

What are the facilities like?
The facilities are great. We have a small gym in the vet campus and a massive canteen where everyone can gather for lunch. There are new lecture theatres with comfy seats and the dissection room is great for learning in. We also have a library on campus which stocks all the books you need.

What's the student experience like?
Student experience is great in Edinburgh. The city is vibrant and there’s always something going on. There are lots of clubs and societies to choose from, so you’ll always find something that will interest you!

Best thing about studying at your uni?
The best thing is the course. Although it is hard it is worth it, because it’s so enjoyable for me. Each year is harder but more exciting as you get closer to where you want to be.

Have you done any work-experience?
I have done lots of work experience as it is part of the course. I have to do 26 weeks of clinical work experience in the last clinical part of our course, so it will be a busy holidays!

What are your future career plans?
My career plans are not very detailed at the moment, but I still have two years to decide! I’d like to go into mixed practice initially and maybe then specialise in something I enjoy.

Any tips for students thinking about going to uni?
My tip would be to do it! It’s a great experience - you meet new people and find yourself, becoming a much more confident, rounded and independent person.
